This paper proposes an energy-efficient detection scheme, referred to as AdaSense, that is particularly suitable in the sparse regime when events be detected happen rarely. To minimize energy consumption, AdaSense exploits dependency between receiver noise figure (i.e., added noise) and power consumption; less noisy channel observations typically imply higher consumption. duty-cycled begins each cycle with a few low-power-low-reliability mode. Based on these observations, it makes first tentative decision whether or not message present. If no declared, waits till beginning of next starts afresh. tentatively enters confirmation second phase, takes more samples, but now high-power-high-reliability confirm decision, stops, else afresh Compared prominent schemes such clear assessment algorithm Berkeley Media Access Control (BMAC) protocol, provides relative gains grow unbounded small probability false-alarm regime, communication gets sparser. In non-asymptotic are 30% 75% for scenarios found context wake-up receivers.
